Our CLE this month will be on August 18th at Dakota Restaurant. Our guest speaker will be Sheriff Randy Smith who will talk on “An Update on the Sheriff’s Office”. CRIMINAL LAW

The All Day Criminal Law CLE will be on Friday, August 25th at the Southern Hotel in Covington. This has been approved for 6 hours of CLE credit, including Ethics and Professionalism. The cost for members, which includes the material and lunch, is $185., non-members cost is $250. Registration must be submitted prior to August 18th to ensure enough handouts and food. ABA/Federal Trial Judges Educational Summit
October 16-18
Royal Sonesta Hotel
New Orleans, LA

The program is entitled “ANATOMY OF A FEDERAL TRIAL: Judges and Lawyers Jambalaya—Trial Techniques Designed, Developed, and Demonstrated by a Faculty of Federal Trial Judges and Top Trial Attorneys.” The program will encompass vignettes of various phases of a federal trial based on a fact pattern, followed by interactive roundtable discussions led by federal judges and experienced lawyers. The topics will include pre-trial motions, admissibility of evidence, examination of experts, closing arguments, damages, attorney’s fees, appeals and ethics. I have attached a program outline.

LAW CLERK/RESEARCH ATTORNEY

The First Circuit Court of Appeal Central Staff seeks a Law Clerk/Research Attorney to perform research, review records, and draft legal memoranda on civil and criminal cases. Must have strong academic credentials, computer skills, as well as demonstrated research and writing skills. Juris Doctorate and LA Bar passage required. Court experience preferred. Starting salary range is $47,500 – $70,000, commensurate with experience. Work location is in Baton Rouge.   • The directory not only allows members to find members, but also allows attorneys outside of our area to find your contact information, and allows the general public looking for an attorney based upon practice area.
  • The bar association receives many calls looking for an attorney, if you are not on the list you will lose out on this opportunity for new clients.
