YOUNG LAWYERS

Young Lawyers Section would like to thank all of the sponsors and supporters of the Court Chase 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run that took place on September 12th. Without your generous contributions, time, effort and support we would not be able to have such a fantastic race day and raise funds to benefit the Youth Service Bureau.

FREE LAW BOOKS

After two generations in business, the Barranger Law Firm will be closing the doors. With two generations in the legal field there is a vast amount of law books covering many years. The family would like to see if there is anyone interested in having any of the law books for their library. Due to the large amount of books, please contact Judy at judy@22ndjdcbar.org to schedule a time to look over the books. Again there are many years of books and these would be free and first come first serve.

LSBA Self-Represented Litigant Service Providers Meeting: Self-represented litigants are a national growing trend. In New York, 1.8 million litigants appeared in state court without an attorney. In Connecticut, in 2011, the percentage of cases where at least one party represented himself was 85% in family law and 28% in civil cases. The courts across this State are instituting self-help desks with free forms and assistance. To address some of the issues that arise in dealing with this trend such as limited representation contracts and to discuss services such as LawHelp and LEAP, the LSBA is holding a meeting FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, Crown Plaza Baton Rouge, 4728 Constitution Ave., 1-888-240-2560. You are welcome to attend and learn about this movement.
