A message from the Northshore Food Bank

We spoke with the CEO of the Northshore Food Bank, Terri Turner-Marse. Some of the impact experienced during the pandemic included the following:

  • Additionally the net revenue stream once created by the ReSale Shop was suspended for a few months thus significantly reducing this program’s contribution to our mission. Our commitment to our children remains in place as $100,000 has been spent to support those children in the spring and the summer who participate in the reduced fee meal program at our schools.
  • There has been a significant increase in the amount of perishable goods received from Second Harvest which is welcomed by our participants but does not replace those food products typically contained in a pantry. The current USDA “Farmers to Food Box” program has reduced the amount of non perishable food product goods we receive contributing to the additional expenses incurred.
  • Registrations into our program are starting to decline but have not reached to the level of pre-COVID volumes while we sustain the increased distributions created from COVID. Simply put, the employment has not returned to pre-COVID levels and families remain food insecure.
  • The need currently is for financial contributions. NFB needs the flexibility to determine where to spend these dollars. If you are able to make a donation please go to their website at northshorefoodbank.org and click on the donate button. If anyone is interested in a tour of their new facility please contact Terri Turner-Marse at 985-893-7445 to schedule.

Thank you for your continued support of the local Food Bank
