June 2024 Newsletter
From the President…
As the hectic days of late May have ended, I hope this month’s newsletter finds you comfortably settling into your summer schedule and planning, as well as taking those long-awaited vacations. If you have children between the ages of 6 and 18, we are doing something new and exciting this summer that I hope you will take advantage of. On July 26th, the 22nd JDC Bar Association will host its first ever Bring Your Kids to Court Day. While we are still planning, the event will likely be in the morning, for a couple of hours, and will cater to different age groups and interests. An adult must attend with the child and it is open only to 22nd JDC Bar Association members. Participation is going to be limited, so look out for further emails and sign-up opportunities for this event.
While registration for our June 21 CLE with Judges Penzato, McClendon and Wolfe is full, it’s not too soon to register for July! We will be welcoming Ric Poirier on July 19 from the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, who will speak on “The Adjudication of Lawyer Discipline Matters in Louisiana.” This will be our one, and only, monthly ethics hour for the year, so you don’t want to miss it.
July CLE – Register & Pay OnlineIf you have registered to attend the CLE on June 21 and find you need to cancel, please let Reina know so we can fill that seat with someone from the waiting list.
Finally, for the first time in 5 years, we are bringing back a Criminal Only CLE lineup. On Friday, August 9, 2024, the Criminal Law Section of the 22nd JDC Bar Association will be presenting a half day Criminal CLE lineup, including presentations from Judge Gardner and Caroline Gabriel (Right Place, Wrong Time: Alternatives to Incarceration and Time Calculations), DA Collin Sims (DAs Office Updates), and Public Defender John Lindner (Legislative Updates). Be on the lookout for the link to sign up for that CLE soon.
As always, if you have any suggestions, wish to help with any of these events, or have a need, please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself, our board members, Michael Nicaud and Amanda Trosclair, or the incredible Reina Gardner. Have a wonderful summer!!
