EVENTBRITE
The issues we have had with Eventbrite the last few weeks have been resolved. It is again secure to pay for Bar Events/Membership with Eventbrite. However, we are currently searching for a better, cheaper pay-source to make paying for events easier for our members. We will keep you updated.
CHEF SOIREE
Help support the Youth Service Bureau at the biggest and best fundraiser on the Northshore – Chef’s Soiree! Sponsorship opportunities are still available and tickets to the event can be purchased online or at YSB’s office next to the Covington Trailhead.
This year’s event is sure to be the best yet with entertainment from Zita, The Dominos Band, and Supercharger. Sample delicious bites from over fifty of the Northshore’s best restaurants. Also, don’t miss the opportunity to meet and greet with our guest bartender – Deuce McAllister!
Already purchased your event tickets? Well, don’t forget to purchase your raffle tickets as well. Banner Ford is helping YSB raffle a 2020 Ford Mustang or 2020 Ford Escape. Only 3,500 tickets will be sold, so don’t miss out on your opportunity to walk away with a new ride!
For more information regarding sponsorships and tickets, please visit https://www.ysbworks.com/chef-soiree. The YSB has always enjoyed a wonderful working relationship with the 22nd JDC Bar Association and we want to say thank you for all of your support.

WEBSITE LISTING
The Bar Association has a really great website; if you have not had a chance to look at this, please check it out and let us know your views. This is not only the place to quickly look up everything going on in our Association, but is also our attorney referral source. The Bar Association receives many calls from the public and this is where we send them to find an attorney; as well as other attorneys who may be looking for you. So, please fill out the on-line form to be included; this must be done every year to keep it current.
Basic Listing: Lists your name, phone number and address and is free with your current membership dues.
Premium Listing: Lists your name, phone, address, link to website and area of practice, and is only $50 per year. (look for ways to get a discount price on your membership form).
FAMILY LAW SPECIALIZATION
Last week, the LBLS Board voted to extend the deadline to accept applications for certification in five (5) specializations — appellate practice, estate planning and administration, family law, health law, and tax law – until Friday, March 27, 2020. The original deadline was February 28, 2020. The LBLS will be accepting applications for business bankruptcy law and consumer bankruptcy law certification from January 1, 2020 through September 30, 2020. The Board considered several factors, including the Mardi Gras holidays, in their decision to extend the deadline. Any questions can be directed to Mary Ann Wegmann at maryann.wegmann@lsba.org.
WOMEN IN LAW
LAW DAY 2020. This year the 22nd JDC Women in Law Section is teaming up with the Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education (LCLCE) to bring “Lawyers in the Classroom” for Law Day. Law Day is May 1 every year and it celebrates the role of law in our society and seeks to bring a deeper understanding of the legal profession to others. The Women in Law’s involvement in Law Day 2020 is especially fitting because the theme this year is “Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Democracy: The 19th Amendment at 100” highlighting women’s progression in law over the last century. I am hoping our involvement with this project will breathe a new life into it and educate and excite kids about the law, the legal system, and even possibly spark an interest to become a future lawyer or Judge in a young mind! Law Day is official May 1, 2020 but the program is flexible to accommodate your schedule, the teaching schedule, and state testing so the presentation can be anywhere from April 15 – May 15.
While the Women in Law section is taking the lead on this project, we of course welcome any 22nd JDC bar members to participate. Volunteers will give an approximate one hour presentation to a group of students ranging from elementary to high school. The topic can be on any aspect of the legal system and there are sample templates and suggested topics/ideas on the ABA website at: https://www.americanbar.org/groups/public_education/law-day/law-day-2020/ and I plan on doing a power point presentation geared toward 6th graders that I can share with anyone interested. If you would like to participate, please let me or Judy Walz know and we will work with the LCLCE to pair you with a school on a date and time convenient to your schedules. If you would like to request to present at a specific school, please let us know that as well and if the school is participating in the program (feel free to reach out to the school administrators and teachers and suggest they participate) then that should be easily accomplished.
Thank you in advance for volunteering your time and talents for this project.
