COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Below is a note from the CEO of the Northshore Food Bank:
The Northshore Food Bank continues to address the food insecurity within the communities of St. Tammany and Washington Parishes. Earlier this year we began a collaborative effort with local nonprofits which have food needs.
- We began working with Safe Harbor to provide food to the families located in their homes for sheltering. Through this initiative, with the anonymity of the family being maintained we are providing nutritional supplements to these families which is saving Safe Harbor $$ and allowing them to redistribute a portion of their nutrition funds to other expenses Safe Harbor incurs with their ministry.
- Recently we began an affiliation with Camp NORA, a Veteran’s Homeless Home, with registration of their interested residents to help a portion of their expenses as well.
- Last month we began an affiliation with NAMI to help provide food supplements to those residents which live in their dedicated houses.
Though these affiliations and collaborations may not meet all the nutritional requirements present for the individual(s) being served, it is having an impact in reducing the expense burden these other non profit programs may incur for nutrition.
November is the month designated by the Legal Community each year to help provide food to hungry families in our community. The Food Bank is requesting much needed donations of cereal, dry beans and canned tuna. MONETARY donations are always most welcome and can be stretched by the Food Bank to purchase many more food items than probably any of us can purchase for the money you donate. Remember, too, that the 22nd JDC Bar Association matches all monetary donations to the Food Bank, so please be as generous as your budget allows. On Wednesday, November 14th, we will have volunteers pick up donations from law offices, so please start collecting now.
Contact Judy at judy@22ndjdcbar.org if you have any questions and to schedule your pick up time.
Thank you for your continued generosity.
