September 2025 Newsletter

With much appreciation…

A big thank you to Staff Attorneys Becky Mighton and George Amann for their inside tips and words of advice at our August 15 CLE. A sense of humor with laughs along the way made this a most enjoyable Friday afternoon!

Last reminder!
When you registered/reregistered to be a member of our Bar Association for 2025 you were sent a link so that you could update your information in our attorney directory. If you don’t recall getting that link and updating, then it may have slipped by you, it might have gone to spam or that link is lost in the ether-world! The directory is one of the perks of your membership- and we can assure you people are referred to it monthly when they ask for help finding an attorney. Don’t miss out on your bonus advertising- take a minute to look yourself up, and if you aren’t there (or the info is not correct) just let us know so we can remedy that!

Utilizing Motion Practice To Frame Issues and Drive Results
Doug Freese, Chief Of Criminal Division, District Attorney’s Office

Pretrial motion practice has value beyond addressing the legal issues that are present in a given case. It gives practitioners the opportunity to highlight for the court the points you believe put your client in the best possible light; the opportunity to manage their clients’ expectations, as they can educate their clients regarding the weaknesses in their own case (if the attorney believes a pretrial resolution is in his or her client’s best interest); gauge how certain witnesses will perform during trial; learn how their opponent will address critical issues; and prompt their opponent to come to the table in advance of trial to discuss potential resolution.
