May 2022 Newsletter
Dear Members
“And all the world is glad with May.”
~ John Burroughs
I don’t know about you all, but May is one of the most exciting and busiest months for me and my family. School bells are ringing signaling the beginning of summer, graduation hats are being tossed high in the sky, the boys of summer fill baseball fields near and far, and mothers celebrated. Also packaged into this bursting month is our May luncheon and CLE which is gearing up to be a fantastic gathering.
We certainly hope you will join us on Friday, May 20th at Beau Chene Country Club, 602 N. Beau Chene Dr in Mandeville, LA for our May meeting and CLE. We will be joined by First Circuit Court of Appeal Judges Penzato, McClendon and Wolfe for a panel presentation on “First Circuit Appellate and Writ Practice.”
Lunch service featuring a Chef’s Choice* selection will begin at Noon and the cost is $28. The cost of the CLE is $15 for members, $25 for non-members. Please click on the link below to register and pay for lunch and the CLE. If you paid for the annual CLEs, please click on the link below and pay for lunch only.
*Chef’s choice includes soup or salad, entree with two sides, dessert, coffee/tea/water.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Friday, May 20, 2022
9 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office at Bogalusa Substation
302 Mississippi Avenue, Bogalusa, LA 70427
The LSBA’s Wills for Heroes works with affiliate organizations to provide free estate planning documents to first responders, veterans, and spouses, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and probation/parole officers. It’s a wonderfully rewarding experience!
Volunteer attorneys are needed for a “Wills for Heroes” event benefiting first responders on Friday, May 20, 2022. The W4H event is hosted by Southeast Louisiana Legal Services’ (SLLS) Northshore Pro Bono Project and will be held at the Bogalusa Substation of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office in Bogalusa. Both a recruitment flyer is attached along with a first responder flyer. Please feel free to spread the word.
A brief training begins at 8:30 a.m.; the W4H event will run from 9 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided, and 1 hour of CLE is earned! After training, volunteer attorneys will create three documents: a last will and testament, a healthcare power of attorney, and an advanced directive/living will. No complex matters are addressed.
To sign up or for more information, contact Cynthia M. Bordonaro at cbordonaro@slls.org or 985-893-0076 x519. Hope to see you there!
