July 2016 Newsletter

DEAR MEMBERS:

Thank you to Judge Scott Gardner, who spoke at our June CLE on “Jury Considerations.” His discussion offered many useful tips from his experience as a litigator and from his perspective from the bench. We’re looking forward to putting them into practice.

Our July CLE will be held at Keith Young’s Restaurant on Friday, July 15th. Our guest speaker will be our newly appointed Sheriff Randy Smith, who will speak on “The Operation of the Sheriff’s Office and Future Plans for the same”.

This CLE is anticipated to be highly attended, therefore it will be necessary to RSVP by prepaying by July 12th. As we all know, Young’s Restaurant is limited in the number of seats, so if you plan to attend, you must prepay. Prepay will speed up the sign-in process and assure you a seat. We cannot guarantee you a spot if you do not RSVP.

Please mail your check for $40 payable to “22nd JDC Bar Association PO Box 2074 Covington, 70433. If you have any questions regarding prepayment, please contact Judy at judy@22ndjdcbar.org.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The 22nd JDC Public Defender’s Office has its own clothing closet for clients who may not have access to appropriate attire for court. The closet desperately needs to be replenished with suits, dress shirts, career dresses, pants, ties, and shoes for men and women of all sizes.

Your donations of clean, gently worn professional and business casual attire will help maintain the dignity of both the clients and the court proceedings. Public Defender John Lindner and his staff will be accepting the donations at their offices located at 402 N. Jefferson Avenue in Covington and at 919A Washington Street in Franklinton during regular business hours throughout the month of July.

For more information or to schedule a pickup of your donations, please contact Judy at judy@22ndjdcbar.org or 985-867-4833.
