April 2024 Newsletter

From the President…
As the Spring flowers are blooming, your 22nd JDC Bar Association is hard at work to provide you with informative and interesting CLEs. This year, we are also focusing on offering additional services to our members, so make sure to read your newsletters to see what is in store!

March was full of amazing speakers and topics. Judge Scott Schlegel and his presentation on AI and the Justice System and the All Day Family Law CLE were both highly attended and thought-provoking. Thank you to all of our amazing speakers, sponsors, and attendees and a special thank you to Ana Lopez and Amanda Trosclair for helping put together the All Day Family Law CLE!

Looking to April and beyond, don’t miss Mark Myers and his presentation on “Tips for Successful Mediations (from a 29-year Mediator)” on April 19, 2024 at Zea Rotisserie and Bar. Don’t forget to choose your lunch option, and if you are in the “All CLEs for $100 Club” let Reina know you will be attending so she can reserve your seat.

Then, on May 17th we will have Kevin Dorsey presenting on “Implications of Tech and Social Media on Domestic Violence and Family Law Cases”, also at Zea. This hour has just been approved for family law specialization credit! Same instructions are in place above for lunch and seat reservation.

Finally, don’t forget about getting your headshots! Heidi Bowers and The 22nd JDC Bar Association will be providing headshots on April 10th and 11th at the Justice Center in Covington to our membership for only $35. You can’t get headshots this good, this cheap elsewhere, and Heidi is the best! We will also be offering headshots to non-members for $50. Reserve your spot at

It continues to be a great pleasure to line up these speakers and provide services for YOUR 22nd Judicial District Court Bar Association. As always – if you have any suggestions, comments, or concerns – feel free to reach out.

Meet Our Newest Member- The Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence

LCADV is the federally designated statewide coalition of organizations, programs, and individuals who share the goal of ending domestic violence in Louisiana. LCADV empowers its members and communities through advocacy, education, resource development, and technical assistance.

The Legal Access Network (LAN) connects survivors of domestic violence who are unable to afford legal services privately and are unable to access other resources such as legal aid, or private attorneys to address their legal needs. LCADV pays private attorneys across Louisiana to represent survivors in cases such as protection orders, custody, divorce, and immigration.

LAN provides access to civil justice for survivors of domestic violence. In addition to an hourly fee, LAN attorneys will receive mentorship, research assistance, and other resources throughout their participation in LAN. Attorneys have the opportunity to change lives by representing survivors of domestic violence with various civil legal needs.

Attorneys interested in LAN should contact the staff attorney at LCADV by email at
chelsee.green@lcadv.org or by phone at (225) 752-1296.

Did you leave a beautiful Columbia rain jacket at the Sothern Hotel after the All Day CLE?
Email/call Reina, and if you can correctly report what color it is you can have it back!
