From the President…

Happy New Year!

I am honored to serve as the President of your 22nd JDC Bar Association for 2024. As we start this new year, we are excited to welcome Reina Gardner as our new Executive Director. While we all are going to miss the amazing Judy Walz, we are lucky to have the opportunity for a new beginning. We are also incredibly lucky to have Michael Nicaud serving as your Vice President and Amanda Trosclair serving as your Treasurer.

This year your bar association team is focused on providing more benefits to its members, including bringing back the Young Lawyers, Family Law, and Criminal Law Sections. In addition, during the year, we plan on having a couple of other surprises coming your way. Don’t risk missing anything- become a member now- information and links follow!

The monthly CLE lunch meetings will continue to be held the 3rd Friday of the month at Zea Rotisserie & Bar in Covington, so don’t forget to Save the Dates- January 19, February 16, March 15, April 19, May 17, June 21, July 19, August 16, September 20, October 18. Doors open at noon and the CLE begins at 12:30.

I am in the process of scheduling our speakers for the year, so, if you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to either myself or Reina. I am always open to suggestions.

We are beginning the year with John Lindner, Director of 22nd JDC Public Defender’s Office, as our guest speaker. He will present “Recent Developments In Criminal Law” on Friday, January 19, and due to the limited seating, make sure to register ahead of time to reserve your seat. When registering, please specify your lunch choice- the “LUNCH” meal is Rotisserie Beef Sirloin and the “VEGETARIAN” option is the Mediterranean Hummus Platter. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

22nd JDC Bar Association Membership

Here’s what you get for $75 (price increases March 1)

• Monthly newsletter, updates from the courts, important and timely notices affecting your law practice, employment opportunities and CLE seminar invitations
• Monthly luncheons and CLE opportunities at a discount
• Specialization CLEs
• Invitation to enroll in specialty sections: criminal law, family law, young lawyers
• Free basic listing in the website directory of attorneys or premium listing with link to your business
• Membership card that allows ease of admittance to the Justice Center (without removing your belt or turning on your laptop)
• Participation in community outreach opportunities
• Our “world famous” annual Christmas party
• Membership is valid from enrollment date through December 31, 2024

Monthly Luncheon CLEs

• Monthly meeting, lunch and CLE occurs on the third Friday of the month, January through October, at noon at Zea Rotisserie and Bar in Covington (January 19, February 16, March 15, April 19, May 17, June 21, July 19, August 16, September 20, October 18)
• Lunch is $35, CLE is $15 for members, $25 for non-members
• Doors open at noon with the CLE from 12:30-1:30
• HOWEVER, when you enroll as a member, you can attend all our monthly CLEs for a reduced rate, one-time payment of $100 (this does not cover the All Day CLEs or the cost of lunch). That’s just $10 per CLE hour!

All Day CLEs…Seize The Day!

• Provide 6 hours of CLE credit at a reduced rate for members
• The March 22 seminar, at the Southern Hotel, is dedicated to family law and qualifies for specialization credit
• The November 15 seminar, at the Southern Hotel, offers a variety of subjects, and always provides one hour of Ethics and one hour of Professionalism
• Notifications and registration for these seminars will be announced on our website and newsletter

Section Membership

Membership in these sections is included in your annual membership registration

• CRIMINAL LAW- Offers CLE for Criminal Law and updates on new laws impacting criminal law as well as networking opportunities
• FAMILY LAW- Offers CLE for Family Law Specialization and updates on new laws impacting family law as well as networking opportunities
• YOUNG LAWYERS- For lawyers 40 years of age and under, or who have been admitted to the bar for 6 years or less, offers a chance to meet with other newly admitted lawyers and judges for CLEs and networking

• Basic listing is free with your paid membership, simply go to the link to complete the information you want clients to see
• Premium website listing is only $40 when purchased with your membership and displays your bio, logo, contact info and a direct link with your e-business card prominently visible under the attorney directory tab
