Thank you to Peter Mansfield for presenting at our April CLE. Our CLE this month will be on May 19th at Dakota Restaurant our speaker will be Judge Raymond Childress and his presentation will be on “Veteran Court”. COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The first Community Outreach Luncheon is set for May 23, 2017 at Noon at Di Christina’s in Covington. The purpose of these luncheons is to spotlight local non-profit organizations and assess their needs and how the legal community can help. It is also a fundraising lunch for the non-profits. There will be a suggested donation of $50.00; it is not a requirement to attend the lunch. The Bar Association has graciously offered to match any contributions received up to $1,000.00. Noble Bates Young will be our speaker on behalf of the Miracle League. More information on the Miracle League can be found here: http://www.miracleleaguenorthshore.org/about.
We will also vote on who we want to spotlight at the next Luncheon. If you know of a local non-profit that you would like us to spotlight, please let us know. The cost for lunch is $25. If you cannot attend, please consider donating to this worthy cause.

The Criminal Law will host an All Day CLE on August 25th at the Southern Hotel. We have an excellent line-up of speakers and this CLE will be very informative to our Criminal Law Members, but is open to everyone. On April 2, 2017, the life of Whitney, the daughter of a legal secretary in Lake Charles, changed in an instant. She was on her way home from her prom and nearly lost her life due to a drunk driver. She had to be airlifted to Women & Children’s Hospital in Lafayette, where they found out she had sustained a traumatic brain injury, collapsed lungs, bleeding on the brain, and brain swelling. She was in a coma for several days before she started to wake up. The doctors subsequently found it necessary to put her in a medically induced coma for several days so she could heal. Now that she’s awake, she’s having trouble with her memory, speaking, eating, and walking. On Monday, Whitney was transferred to the New Orleans Children’s Hospital for rehabilitation. Upon her initial evaluation, the doctors said she will have to stay there 8-9 weeks.
The main cause of stress on the family right now is trying to find affordable housing while in New Orleans. Ronald McDonald House is full. Most of the hotels are full due to Jazz Fest. Angela said the cheapest hotel they could find is $700/week.
SOLACE REQUEST :
1) Does anyone have a condo/house/apartment in the New Orleans area that they can donate or rent to Whitney’s family at a very reasonable price while Whitney is in Children’s Hospital for 8-9 weeks?
2) Does anyone have extra hotel points so that her family can stay in a nearby hotel that they can hopefully find?
3) Prayers for Whitney and her family because it appears that Lindsey will have permanent residual disability.
