DEAR MEMBERS:

The Bar Association will host a Christmas Social on December 10th from 6-9 p.m. at the Seiler Bar in lieu of our usual Christmas Party. Due to the COVID restrictions, only members will be allowed to attend this year; no guests will be admitted. During the 2020 year, the Bar Association strived to provide as many free and low cost CLEs as possible which reduced our revenue. The Bar Association will be providing appetizers and a limited number of adult beverages as we wish 2020 a not so fond farewell. We look forward to seeing you on December 10th.

Congratulations to all of our 22nd Judicial District Court Judges. Nine of our incumbent Judges were elected without opposition: Judge Childress, Judge Hand, Judge Swartz, Judge Burris, Judge Lobello, Judge Gardner, Judge Zaunbrecher, Judge Badeaux and Judge Amacker. Welcome to our new judges, John Keller (Division D), Ellen Creel (Division J) and Patrice Oppenheim (Division K). The court is working on finding a COVID appropriate venue for their swearing in January 2021.

Congratulations to Warren Montgomery on his reelection as 22nd JDC District Attorney.

Congratulations to Judge William J. Knight for being awarded the 2020 Calogero Award by the Louisiana State Bar Association. The Gala will take place on April 23, 2021.

Our next CLE will be this Friday, November 13th, beginning at 8:30 a.m, at the Clerk of Court meeting room (across the street from the Courthouse and on the first floor of the parking garage). This CLE will also be available on Zoom.

The speaker will be Judge-Elect Patti Oppenheim; this will be a Professionalism CLE and is approved for Family Law Specialization. The topic is “Lessons in Professionalism from RBG and Other Jurists.” She will also be discussing procedures and professionalism in Division K in 2021.

This CLE is put on by the Women in Law Section, but is open to all members. Please wear a mask and plan to social distance.
