COMMUNITY OUTREACH

As the Community Outreach Chair, I am teaming up with “Project Blessings All Year” to help get basic food items to the pantries and tables of truly needy families in St. Tammany. This month we will bringing boxes to participating law offices to be filled with food items needed by a particular family in our community. These boxes will be picked up and delivered to those families and the box brought back to your office; this is an on-going monthly project. I intend that our boxes will be nicely labeled so that our community will know our 22nd JDC Bar Association is providing and contributing, and I intend to have this program continue on into years to come.

A small act on the part of your office would mean the world to those going hungry. If you would like to participate or have any questions, please contact Judy at judy@22ndjdcbar.org

The 9th Annual Court Chase has run into some bumps this year. We are actively working on the issues and will let you know the status as soon as we do. Thank you for your understanding.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

The Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board is seeking volunteers to serve as hearing committee members for the Board. A hearing
committee consists of three members, two lawyers and one non-lawyer. Hearing committees serve in a variety of adjudicatory roles for the Board, including deciding whether the Office of Disciplinary Counsel had demonstrated probable cause to proceed with a disciplinary proceeding and serving as the initial-triers-of-fact in lawyer discipline matters. You can learn more about the role of hearing committees and the qualifications at www.ladb.org/About.

Individuals qualified to serve as a hearing committee member are appointed by the Board’s Administrative Committee. The appointment process starts with completing an application and submitting it to the Board. The Board will conduct a background check, the results of which will be submitted to the Board’s Administrative Committee for review along with the application. Persons interested in applying to be a hearing committee member can request an application from Jennifer Stewart, Deputy Administrator, at: 504-834-1488. If you have any questions about serving as a hearing committee member, please contact Jordan Huck, Hearing Committee Counsel, at: 504-830-5497.

Additionally, if you are aware of any non-lawyers who would be interested in serving on a hearing committee, please encourage them to request and application.

I hope some of you will take advantage of this unique opportunity to serve the legal professions. Without the dedication of the Board’s volunteer hearing committee members, the Board would not be able to fulfill its important role of protecting the public and preserving the integrity of the profession.

Anderson Dotson, III, Chair
Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board
