March 2022 Newsletter

Dear Members

“In March winter is holding back and spring is pulling forward. Something holds and something pulls inside of us too.”
― Jean Hersey

Springtime is on the horizon – the birds are chirping, the sun is warmer on my face and the days are growing longer. Springtime is also on the horizon for this Association as we will host our final Zoom CLE before happily transitioning back into our in-person luncheons and presentations in April.

Our March Zoom CLE will be on Friday the 18th and the speaker will be District Attorney Warren Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery’s CLE topic will be “Reed vs. Washington Parish: The Case for the DA Tax.

The cost for members is $15 and $25 for non-members. Please click on the link below to register and pay for the CLE. You will receive the Zoom log-in link with your paid receipt. The deadline to register for this CLE is 11:00 a.m. on March 18th.

• If you paid for the annual CLEs, please let Judy know you would like to view this CLE and the link will be emailed to you the day before the CLE.

This is not only the place to quickly look up everything going on in our Association, but is also our attorney referral source. The Bar Association receives many calls from the public and this is where we send them to find an attorney; as well as other attorneys who may be looking for you. So, please fill out the on-line form to be included; this must be done every year to keep it current.

Basic Listing: Lists your name, phone number and address and is free with your current membership dues. This information must be filled out by you.

Premium Listing: Lists your name, phone, address, link to website and area of practice, and is only $50 per year. (look for ways for a discount price on your membership form).

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Friday, March 11, 2022 9 – 3:00
22nd Judicial District Court Jury Pool Room
701 N. Columbia Street Covington, LA 70433

The LSBA’s Wills for Heroes works with affiliate organizations to provide free estate planning documents to first responders, veterans, and spouses, including police officers, firefighters and paramedics. It’s a wonderfully rewarding experience! Volunteer attorneys are needed for a “Wills for Heroes” event benefiting first responders on Friday, March 11, 2022. The W4H event is hosted by Southeast Louisiana Legal Services’ (SLLS) Northshore Pro Bono Project and will be held at the Jury Pool Room of the 22nd Judicial District Court in Covington. A brief training begins at 8:30 a.m.; the W4H event will run from 9 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided, and 1 hour of CLE is earned! After training, volunteer attorneys will create three documents: a last will and testament, a healthcare power of attorney, and an advanced directive/living will. No complex matters are addressed. The event will follow social distance protocol and all participants will be required to wear a mask. To sign up or for more information, contact Cynthia M. Bordonaro at cbordonaro@slls.org or 985-893-0076 x519.
