Dear Members:
Thank you to Judges John Keller, Ellen Creel and Patti Oppenheim who spoke at our January CLE. Our next CLE will be February 19th via Zoom and our speaker will be Micah Stewart. Mr. Stewart will speak on “PPP Round 2 and Other Incentives in the Consolidated Appropriation Act”. The presentation will be An Update On the PPP Program with an emphasis on the latest regulations regarding forgiveness of the debt, tax deductibility issues, sales of the business while loans are still outstanding as well as an outline of the next phases of the program.

If you have not paid your 2021 membership dues yet, they are now due, the cost is only $70 (look for ways to get a discount price on your membership form). You will be mailed a blue membership card once payment is received; the yellow membership card will no longer be good after January 31st.

Our website is not only the place to quickly look up everything going on in our Association, but is also our attorney referral source. The Bar Association receives many calls from the public and this is where we send them to find an attorney; as well as other attorneys who may be looking for you. So, please fill out the on-line form to be included; this must be done every year to keep it current.

Basic Listing: Lists your name, phone number and address and is free with your current membership dues. This information must be filled out by you.

Premium Listing: Lists your name, phone, address, link to website and area of practice, and is only $50 per year. (look for ways for a discount price on your membership form).

Baumgartner Named 2020 LBF Boisfontaine
Trial Advocacy
Award Recipient

Adrianne L. Baumgartner, a member of the Porteous Hainkel & Johnson Law Firm in Covington is the recipient of the 2020 Louisiana Bar Foundation’s (LBF) Curtis R. Boisfontaine Trial Advocacy Award.

Ms. Baumgartner is receiving this award in recognition of her long-standing devotion to and excellence in trial practice and for upholding the standards of ethics and consideration for the court, litigants, and all counsel. This award carries a cash stipend to any non-profit law related program providing services in the state of Louisiana; Ms. Baumgartner has selected Youth Service Bureau of St. Tammany to receive the $1,000 stipend to be donated in her name.

Her litigation practice areas are personal injury and insurance defense. Over the years her practice has also focused on the defense of insurance companies in bad faith/extra contractual cases. Adrianne has been a member of numerous Bar organizations including the Covington, New Orleans and Louisiana Bar Association. She serves on the Nominating Committee for the Louisiana State Bar Association as well as the Legislation Committee. She has served as a hearing officer for the Louisiana Disciplinary Board and is presently serving as a probation officer and fee dispute arbitrator. In 2011 she was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers. She is a member of the West St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce. She serves on the Board of Directors of Support our War Heroes. Ms. Baumgartner has been a LBF Fellow since 2008 and serves on the Northshore Community Partnership Panel and Grants Committee.

The award was established through an endowment to the LBF in memory of Mr. Boisfontaine, who served as president of the LSBA and of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. Donations from Sessions, Fishman, Nathan & Israel, L.L.P., the Boisfontaine family and friends established the fund.

NORTH SHORE JOB OPPORTUNITY

Mandeville Insurance Defense Firm has an immediate job opening for a full-time Paralegal working for 3 attorneys.
Applicant must have a minimum of 3+ years’ experience in workers compensation litigation practice, and should be familiar with the fast pace of WC litigation, as well as the forms and pleadings used in the WC courts. A stable work history and work ethic are important traits.

Candidates should be able to perform the following tasks efficiently and effectively, with little to no supervision:
-prepare summaries of depositions and medical records (some of which are quite voluminous);
-summarize claim file materials;
-prepare routine pleadings to be filed in all State, Federal, and WC Courts;
-prepare and respond to discovery; coordinate, schedule, and calendar NODs; prepare exhibits for MSJs and for trials; assist in trial prep;
-schedule second opinion medical appointments; calendar deadlines in Outlook;
-make court filing runs, as necessary;
-record time accurately on a daily basis.

Applicant must be able to interact and communicate professionally and effectively at all times when dealing with clients, physicians, experts, courts, opposing counsel’s staff, etc. The ability to prioritize tasks and having excellent grammar and proofreading skills is a must. Experience with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Experience with Coyote is a plus, but not necessary. Salary is commensurate with experience.
